The goal of this African blog is to serve African immigrants (AKA African diaspora) by offering tips and techniques for success and writing about issues of interest to African living abroad.

We Africans are known for the vibrancy of the culture that we come from. Popular perceptions of Africa and any blog about Africa will tell you about vast open game parks, several of our indigenous tribes and of course the music and dance that is so much a part of our lives.

When an African moves to another country it’s usually for education or work and for progress in career opportunities. It is not always easy for anyone to move across countries and cultures without some amount of adjustment. Whether it is in the language, food, climate, people and general daily living structures there is so much to assimilate and understand that it can be disconcerting. But, first and most importantly give yourself time to adjust.  Understand the culture that you are going to. The internet has made information on various cultures available easily and there are dedicated websites and blogs that details various travelers’ experiences and details on the culture of the country you are going to. There are many Africa blog articles on this topic from others just like you.

Interact with the locals. Make friends in your university and office among the locals who will help a lot in taking you through the quirks of life in their city and can also help you to get better accommodation and will tell you the best places to eat etc. Join up the various African student group organizations in the Universities or find out African specialty stores and they will also keep you updated on African social events and groups that will help you stay connected with your own as well. These Africans already there will also help a lot in adjusting to the new place. Find information on Blog about Africa and Africans as well.

Read other Africa Blog accounts about how they have adjusted to the new place or you can start your own Africa blog uploading funny incidents you have experienced in adjusting. If you are moving to Canada then read articles by Armand Comoe who has written extensively helping fellow Africans adjust to life there. Most importantly read about the work ethics of that particular culture and the social do and don’ts. Eat local food at local restaurants, visit the markets and a very important point is do not ever unfavorably compare anything or criticize the city, its people or culture. Give the new city and yourself some time to adjust and soon you will be as much a part of them as they themselves.
